🌷 Mixed double tulips • 🎨 Bright orange and creamy white flushed with green • 🌿 Stems about 50 cm tall • 🌤️ Flowers in April and May • 💐 Superb in bouquets • ☀️ Full sun • ❄️ Very hardy • 📏 Bulbs size 11/12
The 'Candle Light' tulip mix brings together double tulips with full, peony-like flowers made up of several rows of tightly packed petals, in two shades: bright orange and creamy white flushed with green. In April and May, they open on stems about 50 cm tall. It is a European horticultural selection.
Orange and creamy white echo one another and create a warm, bright bed, as lovely in the ground as in a large pot or a bouquet. Among our flower bulbs, it is the orange and cream double tulip mix, ready-made for a harmonious bed without having to match the bulbs.
Which tulip should you choose?
- 'Candle Light' tulip mix (this plant) — full, peony-like flowers, bright orange and creamy white flushed with green, about 50 cm, in April and May. For a warm, bright bed, ready-made.
- 'Gudoshnik Double' Tulip — full, peony-like flowers, from butter yellow to pink streaked with red, 45 to 50 cm, April to May. For warm tones that change from day to day.
- Mixed double tulips — the same full flowers, in a mix of reds, pinks, yellows and whites, 40–50 cm, in April and May. For a very colorful border.
- Lilac double tulip — full, peony-like flowers, lilac to purple, 40–50 cm, in April and May. For a romantic border in a single shade.
- 'Glowing with Pride' Tulip — mix of single red, pink, blush white and salmon orange flowers, 45 to 55 cm, April to May. For warm tones in single flowers.
We also offer other mixes, fringed tulips and lily-flowered tulips: they are all presented in our tulip bulb collection.
Plant a few 'Gudoshnik Double' alongside: their full butter-yellow and pink flowers extend the warm tones of the 'Candle Light' mix.
How many bulbs should you choose?
Double tulips make the biggest impact planted in tight groups: allow about 35 bulbs per square meter, or 10 to 12 bulbs in a 30 cm pot.
- 12 bulbs: one large pot on a balcony or terrace, or a group of about 0.35 m² in a border.
- 24 bulbs: about 0.7 m², or two large pots.
- 48 bulbs: about 1.4 m², for a flowering edge along a path.
- 96 bulbs: about 2.7 m², for a real spring bed or a cutting patch of tulips.
The bigger the pack, the lower the price per bulb: the 96-bulb pack works out at less than half the price per bulb of the 12-bulb pack.
Planting & location
Plant tulips from October to December, once the soil has cooled, for flowers in April and May.
- Position: full sun, sheltered from the wind; when wet, their full flowers are heavy and the stems bend over more easily.
- Depth: 15 cm, pointed end up.
- Spacing: 10–15 cm between bulbs in the ground, 3–5 cm in pots.
- Soil: well drained; add sand to heavy soil, as the bulb rots in waterlogged ground.
- Hardiness: fully hardy, they overwinter in the ground without protection.
Plant the bulbs at random rather than by colour: the mix looks more natural and the orange stands out better among the creamy white flowers.
Watering & care
In the ground, rain is enough. In pots, check the moisture with the finger test and water only when the compost is dry 2 cm down.
- Watering: low — at planting, then in pots when the compost is dry on the surface, especially while the buds are forming.
- Fertilizer: unnecessary in the ground; in pots, use a bulb fertilizer as the leaves emerge.
- Faded flowers: cut the flower off just below the head as soon as it drops its petals, leaving the stem and leaves.
- After flowering: let the foliage turn yellow where it is for six weeks; it rebuilds the bulb’s reserves.
In a pot, give it a quarter turn every week in spring: the stems stay straight instead of leaning towards the light.
Decorating ideas & plant pairings
Their orange and cream tones warm up a bed and go well with the flowers of a sunny balcony, such as plants for a sunny balcony.
- For a blue contrast at their feet, plant Armenian grape hyacinth — its bright blue 15 to 20 cm spikes flower in March-April and make the orange of the tulips stand out.
- For a brighter bed, plant Narcissus 'Thalia' among them — its pure white 30 to 35 cm flowers open in April and echo the creamy white of the mix.
- To extend the show into June, plant Allium 'Purple Sensation' behind them — its purple balls, 8 to 10 cm across on 70 to 80 cm stems, open in May-June and take over from the tulips.
- For a patio version, plant 10 to 12 bulbs in the white Elho Greenville Round pot, Ø30 cm — the white sets off the orange of the flowers, and the drainage holes prevent standing water.
In a vase, combine the two colours of the mix: a few orange and creamy white stems are enough for a generous bouquet.
Verdeia tips
- Wait for the soil to cool: ideally plant from late October. In soil that is still warm, tulip bulbs are more prone to disease.
- Cut them in bud for the vase: pick tulips in the morning, when the bud is colored but still closed. They last a week in the vase and make a really full bouquet, ideal among plants to give as gifts.
- Add a few bulbs every autumn: double tulips flower again, but the blooms get smaller over the years. A few fresh bulbs each year keep a border well filled.

FAQ – Everything to know before adopting your Verdeia plant
How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Orders ship within 48 working hours, with tracked delivery in 2 to 5 working days via DPD. Shipping costs and the free-shipping threshold depend on your country — see our delivery page. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
