🌷 Mixed double tulips • 🎨 Soft pink and creamy white • 🌤️ Flowers in April and May • 💐 Superb in bouquets • ☀️ Full sun • ❄️ Very hardy • 📏 Bulbs size 11/12
The 'Double Sensation' tulip mix brings together double tulips with full, peony-like flowers made up of several rows of tightly packed petals, in two shades: soft pink with paler edges and creamy white. They flower in April and May. It is a European horticultural selection.
Pink and creamy white echo one another and create a soft, bright bed, as lovely in the ground as in a large pot or a bouquet. Among our flower bulbs, it is the pink and white double tulip mix, ready-made for a harmonious bed without having to match the bulbs.
Which tulip should you choose?
- 'Double Sensation' tulip mix (this plant) — full, peony-like flowers, soft pink with paler edges and creamy white, in April and May. For a pink and white bed made up entirely of double flowers, ready-made.
- 'Candle Light' Tulip Mix — full, peony-like flowers, bright orange and creamy white flushed with green, about 50 cm, in April and May. To pair creamy white with a warm orange rather than pink.
- 'Symbiose' Tulip Mix — double flowers in deep pink, apricot flamed with pink and soft yellow, about 40 cm, in April. For warmer tones, set off by apricot and yellow.
- Mixed double tulips — full, peony-like flowers in a mix of reds, pinks, yellows, whites and bicolours, 40–50 cm, in April and May. For a more contrasting border.
- Lilac double tulip — full, peony-like flowers, lilac to purple, 40–50 cm, in April and May. For a romantic border in a single shade.
- 'Gudoshnik Double' Tulip — full, peony-like flowers, from butter yellow to pink streaked with red, 45 to 50 cm, April to May. For warm tones that change from day to day.
- 'Pastel' Tulip Mix — cup-shaped flowers in pure white, pale pink, soft pink, deep pink and plum purple, in April. For a range of pinks and white set off by plum purple, with cup-shaped flowers.
- 'Mata Hari' Tulip — white flowers edged with raspberry pink, 40 to 45 cm, April to May. For a pink and white bed of a single variety.
We also offer other mixes, Triumph tulips and lily-flowered tulips: all of them are featured in our tulip bulb collection.
Plant a few 'Mata Hari' alongside: their single white flowers edged with raspberry pink echo the two shades of the mix and flower at the same time, from April to May.
How many bulbs should you choose?
Tulips make the most impact planted in tight groups: allow about 40 bulbs per square metre, or 10 to 12 bulbs in a 30 cm diameter pot.
- 12 bulbs: one large pot on a balcony or terrace, or a group of about 0.3 m² in a bed.
- 24 bulbs: about 0.6 m², or two large pots.
- 48 bulbs: about 1.2 m², for a flowering edge along a path.
- 96 bulbs: about 2.4 m², for a real spring bed or a cutting patch of tulips.
The bigger the pack, the lower the price per bulb: the 96-bulb pack works out at less than half the price per bulb of the 12-bulb pack.
Planting & location
Plant tulips from October to December, once the soil has cooled, for flowers in April and May.
- Position: full sun, sheltered from the wind; when wet, their full flowers are heavy and the stems bend over more easily.
- Depth: 15 cm, pointed end up.
- Spacing: 10–15 cm between bulbs in the ground, 3–5 cm in pots.
- Soil: well drained; add sand to heavy soil, as the bulb rots in waterlogged ground.
- Hardiness: fully hardy, they overwinter in the ground without protection.
Plant the bulbs at random rather than by colour: the mix looks more natural and the pink stands out better among the creamy white flowers.
Watering & care
In the ground, rain is enough. In pots, check the moisture with the finger test and water only when the compost is dry 2 cm down.
- Watering: low — at planting, then in pots when the compost is dry on the surface, especially while the buds are forming.
- Fertilizer: unnecessary in the ground; in pots, use a bulb fertilizer as the leaves emerge.
- Faded flowers: cut the flower off just below the head as soon as it drops its petals, leaving the stem and leaves.
- After flowering: let the foliage turn yellow where it is for six weeks; it rebuilds the bulb’s reserves.
In a pot, give it a quarter turn every week in spring: the stems stay straight instead of leaning towards the light.
Decorating ideas & plant pairings
Their soft pink and creamy white shades go well with the spring flowers of a sunny balcony, such as plants for a sunny balcony.
- For a blue carpet at their feet, plant Armenian grape hyacinth — its bright blue 15 to 20 cm spikes flower in March-April and make the pink and white of the tulips stand out.
- For a softer flowering carpet, pair them with Greek anemone mix — its small blue, pink and white daisies, 10 to 15 cm tall, cover the ground in March-April.
- To add fragrance, pair them with 'Pastel Mix' hyacinth — its scented soft pink, purple and white spikes flower in March-April, in shades close to those of the mix.
- To brighten the bed, plant Narcissus 'Thalia' among them — its pure white 30 to 35 cm flowers open in April and echo the white of the mix.
- To extend the show into June, plant Allium 'Purple Sensation' behind them — its purple balls, 8 to 10 cm across on 70 to 80 cm stems, open in May-June and take over from the tulips.
- For a patio version, plant 10 to 12 bulbs in the white Elho Greenville Round pot, Ø30 cm, with a few muscari planted above them at 7 cm — the white of the pot sets off the pink and creamy white of the flowers, and the drainage holes prevent standing water.
In a vase, combine the two colours of the mix: a few pink and creamy white stems are enough for a generous bouquet.
Verdeia tips
- Wait for the soil to cool: ideally plant from late October. In soil that is still warm, tulip bulbs are more prone to disease.
- Cut them in bud for the vase: pick tulips in the morning, when the bud is colored but still closed. They last a week in the vase and make a really full bouquet, ideal among plants to give as gifts.
- Add a few bulbs every autumn: double tulips flower again, but the blooms get smaller over the years. A few fresh bulbs each year keep a border well filled.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Orders ship within 48 working hours, with tracked delivery in 2 to 5 working days via DPD. Shipping costs and the free-shipping threshold depend on your country — see our delivery page. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
